Israel renewed its military strikes against the Gaza Strip on Tuesday ahead of the expiration of a recently-agreed truce at 2100 GMT.

Hamas: Peace deal must meet people’s demands

Hamas has said it will not sign a peace deal with Israel that fails to meet the demands of its people.

Khalil al-Haya, the Palestinian group’s negotiator at the talks in Egypt seeking to stop fighting in Gaza, said on Thursday they were negotiating with a difficult side “versed in procrastination”.

“We are keen on having an agreement concluded. It must satisfy the demands of our people,” said al-Haya during public address in which he briefed the people of Gaza on the progress of the talks.

Haya said Hamas would continue to demand the end of what he called “unjust incursions” and a permanent lifting of the siege imposed by Israel on Gaza in 2006.

The comments came hours after the truce between Hamas and Israel was extended for five days as negotiators from both sides press ahead with the talks in Cairo.

Contrary to what Israel claims, Gaza universities do not have departments dedicated to military research or training. This is in contrast to Israeli universities which play an integral role in the military occupation and weapons development and have actively promoted the onslaught in Gaza.

DOHA: A lasting truce must lead to the lifting by Israel of its blockade of the Gaza Strip, Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal told AFP in Doha.
The 72-hour cease-fire Hamas reached with Israel on Sunday “is one of the ways or tactics to ensure successful negotiations or to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza,” said Meshaal.
The final “goal we insist on is having the demands of Palestinians met and the Gaza Strip exist without a blockade.”

Cabel called on Netanyahu to resign in light of what he described as “the deteriorating security situation for the communities adjacent to the Gaza Strip”.
